BMW's i-series is the automaker's attempt at combining performance and efficiency. Two hybrid vehicles - the compact BMW i3 and the sporty i8 - have been teased in the run-up to the New York International Auto Show next week.
Essentially, this would mean a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine producing 220 HP and 200 foot-pounds of torque. When combined with electric motors the car has 349 HP on tap in coupe form.

BMW claims the hybrid can make zero-to-60 in less than five seconds while also maintaining 94 miles-per-gallon in the tank.

I am glad to see the real footage though; the car looks very cool without camouflage. The last live-action footage I saw of the BMW i8 concept was the coupe version frolicking in the snow. It's not clear, but we can assume that the Spyder version of the i8 uses the same powertrain as the production coupe.
