A BMW car soon to be released is the BMW i8, BMW i8 is a hybrid supercar with best features and hight future technology. BMW says this model is slightly newer than the one in Mission Impossible 4, and that the hybrid drivetrain is good to hit 60mph in around 4.6 seconds while still getting 78mpg.
Obviously those numbers are a bit hypothetical until a real i8 arrives on dealer lots, but even getting in the range would be impressive. Then again, with an estimated list price of something like $150,000

Essentially, this would mean a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine producing 220 HP and 200 foot-pounds of torque. When combined with electric motors the car has 349 HP on tap in coupe form.

I am glad to see the real footage though; the car looks very cool without camouflage. The last live-action footage I saw of the BMW i8 concept was the coupe version frolicking in the snow. It's not clear, but we can assume that the Spyder version of the i8 uses the same powertrain as the production coupe.

BMW has started testing its electric-drive BMW i3 in Northern Europe, as the German automaker looks to gather more testing information on the model it may launch as early as next year, according to Green Car Reports.
The company was testing the electric-drive prototype at its testing facility somewhere in Scandinavia, the website said, adding that it was unclear whether the car had a battery-electric or extended-range plug-in powertrain. The battery-electric BMW i3 is expected to have a single-charge range of about 80 miles and a 0-60 mile-per-hour acceleration time of about eight seconds.
BMW said late last year that it would start selling its battery-electric BMW i3 four-door next year and would start producing the plug-in hybrid-electric i8 two-door sports car the following year. An BMW i8 prototype was featured last year in "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol," starring Tom Cruise. Last month, the German automaker released a video promoting both the BMW i3 and BMW i8.
In January, BMW started delivering the BMW i3 precursor – the ActiveE – to customers who agreed to lease the vehicle in markets such as New York, Boston and Los Angeles.

In 'Ghost Protocol', the i8’s sporty design and dynamic character is enhanced by indulgent camera work, and some of the car’s new technology is also highlighted. In the night-time city driving scenes, the concept’s aggressive front-end is showcased, with the trick LED and laser headlights in full view.
Laser lights have huge advantages over LEDs; they use less than half the energy and the light intensity is a thousand times higher. Additionally, a laser diode is one hundred times smaller than an LED diode.
The audience is also given an impressive working display of the car as it takes part in an-against-the-clock sprint through downtown Mumbai, while Hunt and fellow agent Jane Carter (Paula Patton) try to stop evil Kurt Hendricks (Michael Nyqvist) activating a nuclear missile via satellite. The driving highlights demonstrate lightning-quick agility and hugely impressive bursts of speed.
For the record, the i8 is a plug-in hybrid concept, combining the modified electric drive system from the BMW i3 – fitted over its front axle – with a high-performance three-cylinder combustion engine producing 220 horsepower and 300Nm (221lb-ft) of torque at the rear.
Some of the car’s interior functions are featured in the film, too, notably a touch-screen controlled satellite navigation system. This is projected onto the car’s windscreen and operated by Carter, enabling the spy duo to cleverly locate the enemy. The feature is based on BMW’s ConnectedDrive technology, which enables drivers to integrate data from the car, driver and surroundings with an all-encompassing network of interactive information.

Acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under five seconds combined with fuel consumption in the European cycle of under three litres per 100 kilometres (approx. 94 mpg imp) are figures currently beyond the capability of any vehicle powered by a combustion engine of comparable performance.
Thanks to the eDrive technology with its large lithium-ion battery, which can be charged from a domestic power supply, the BMW i8 Concept can travel up to 35 kilometres (approx. 20 miles) on electric power alone. Added to which, the 2+2-seater offers enough space for four people, giving it a high level of everyday practicality.
The LifeDrive architecture of the BMW i8 Concept has been carefully adapted to enhance the vehicle's sports car character, and therefore to deliver unbeatable performance and excellent driving dynamics. The motor in the front axle module and combustion engine at the rear are connected by an "energy tunnel", which houses the high-voltage battery.
This gives the car a low centre of gravity – and the dynamic benefits that come with it. The positioning of the electric motor and engine over their respective axles and the space-saving and well-balanced packaging of all components result in an optimum 50/50 weight distribution.
